Dazzling Lightscape offers mile-long trail featuring a million lightsLightscape at Brooklyn Botanic Garden recently opened to the public and is the newest holiday hotspot in New York City.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Brooklyn -- You can now travel to a winter wonderland filled with dazzling lights at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Once visitors enter the trail, they encounter monumental sculptures, colorful light displays, Christmas music, and awe-inspiring views at every turn.

The new exhibit, called Lightscape, recently opened to the public for the first time. It has already become a must-see holiday spot and the perfect place for people to relax with their families.

"We are out here tonight because we just recently sold our home," said John Moogan of Crown Heights, Brooklyn. "Its been a huge move and stressful. We are taking a chance to unwind without the children around and enjoy some of the beauty that Brooklyn has to offer us."

For some of the visitors, the exhibit was a chance to get outside and see other people.

"I am really excited to walk around with friends and see the Botanic Garden at nighttime," said Leslie Crosby from Austin, Texas, who was in town visiting friends. "It's kinda a rare treat and get to spend time outdoors but also near people."

Lightscape has 18 works of light art on display created by local and international artists. The most popular ones include the Winter Cathedral tunnel, Fire Garden in Oak Circle, Sea of Light, and an animated light installation covering Cherry Esplanade.

It has over one million lights along a one-mile-long path with 60,000 pea lights, 630 lighting fixtures, and 600 strands of lights.

"I would recommend for people who are coming to see the show to take your time, grab a cup of coffee, probably bring a scarf and hat, and take a moment to scan the codes that they have in each stop," said Moogan.

Lightscape at Brooklyn Botanic Garden runs on select dates through January 9, 2022. To learn more, go to bbg.org/lightscape.
