As the race reaches one week until Election Day, Kamala Harris delivered her "closing argument" on The Ellipse -- in the same spot where Donald Trump allied his supporters on Jan. 6, 2021, to march on the U.S. Capitol nearby.

Trump tried to preempt Harris's remarks, speaking to reporters Tuesday morning at Mar-a-Lago after declaring he's "the opposite of a Nazi" on Monday night in Georgia. He holds a rally later in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where there is a large population of Puerto Rican Americans.

Trump claims to ABC's Scott he didn't hear comedian's Puerto Rico comment, doesn't denounce it

The former president denied knowing the comedian who made a slew of racist, sexist and vulgar comments at his rally at Madison Square Garden, ABC News Senior Congressional Correspondent Rachel Scott reports.

Joe Torres has the details on the comments that sparked backlash.

That comedian, Tony Hinchcliffe, drew headlines in part for calling Puerto Rico an "island of floating garbage."

"I don't know him, someone put him up there. I don't know who he is," Trump told ABC's Scott.

Trump also insisted he didn't hear any of the comments, even as they've been played on television and written about extensively. When asked what he made of them, he did not take the opportunity to denounce them, repeating that he didn't hear the comments.

Trump expressed confidence that he will win the White House with just a week to go.

Most voters ready to accept election results but doubt Trump will

Despite ongoing claims of voter fraud and ballot mismanagement from former President Donald Trump and his allies, 86% of registered voters in a new ABC News/Ipsos poll say they personally are prepared to accept the outcome of the 2024 presidential election as legitimate, regardless of which candidate wins.

Two-thirds, however, believe Trump is not prepared to accept the outcome as legitimate. Fewer than half as many, 30%, say the same of Vice President Kamala Harris.

Even among Trump's supporters, 81% say they are prepared to accept the election outcome as legitimate. That rises to 92% of Harris supporters in this poll, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates with fieldwork by Ipsos.

Harris to deliver 'closing argument' in remarks on DC's Ellipse

Vice President Kamala Harris is set to make her final case for her bid for the presidency on Washington, D.C.'s Ellipse on Tuesday where she is expected to give an optimistic and hopeful message that's focused on moving forward, according to a senior Harris campaign official.

Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris speaks at a campaign event in Burns Park Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Standing in front of the White House, Harris will offer a split screen and urge voters to "turn the page" on former President Trump's era by pledging to put country over party, the senior campaign official said. About 20,000 people are expected to attend the event, according to an approved permit from the National Park Service.

Harris has adamantly said that the speech's location on the National Mall -- the same spot where Trump delivered remarks prior to the Jan.6, 2021, attacks on the U.S. Capitol -- was to remind Americans of their choice between Harris and Trump and who would go on to the White House.

Comedian's disparaging Puerto Rico joke sparks backlash in battleground Pennsylvania

Tony Hinchcliffe's comments about Puerto Rico at Madison Square Garden is being felt in Pennsylvania, a key battleground state home to a significant number of Puerto Rican voters.

Michael Rivera, a Republican raised in Puerto Rico who serves on the Board of Commissioners in Berks County, condemned the joke in a statement to ABC News Monday night, calling it "not only appalling but deeply disrespectful."

"Such comments overlook the value of a people of rich cultural heritage and the significant contributions of Puerto Ricans to the United States," he added.

Rivera said he "appreciate(s) the Trump campaign's decision to distance themselves from (Hinchcliffe's) comments," but he told ABC News that a statement from Trump himself "would go a long way" toward appeasing Puerto Rican voters upset by the joke.

Rivera said he remained committed to voting for Trump, citing his record. However, he said some in his community are considering changing their vote after Hinchcliffe's comment.
