Search for answers following LuLu Country Club fire

GLENSIDE, Pa. (WPVI) -- Authorities are continuing their search for answers following a devastating fire at LuLu Country Club in Glenside, Montgomery County.

The ruins of the historic clubhouse, built in 1912, were still smoldering on Monday, nothing more than charred rubble with a few walls standing.

Those standing walls are cracked and crumbling. Fire investigators are having a difficult time getting close to try to figure out the cause.

Multiple fire marshals, state police, and the ATF are involved in the ongoing investigation because of the large value on the loss.

So far, they've made no determination as to the cause.

Fire Marshal Timothy Schuck says, "Right now, we're trying to make the building safe. That way we can get in and get into the area we believe is the origin of the fire."

Fire tore through the clubhouse Sunday morning. The first employees arrived to open the golf shop and found the building filled with smoke, then it went up in flames.

Investigators believe it started just off the bar in a stairway.

General manager Jeff Orleski says, "I am still shaking. The last 48 hours have just been a nightmare."

The clubhouse had recently undergone some renovations, and more were planned. Also planned were at least 20 events between now and the holidays.

Orleski explains, "The local country clubs are reaching out to us, willing to help us move our parties elsewhere."

Current and former members came by Monday to see the rubble and reminisce.

Former member Daniel Thomas tells us, "Spent many hours here - parties, dancing, enjoying the pool, all that. It's just very... it's heartbreaking."

Club member Vic Dunphy says, "It's sad to look at but it's a building, it's brick and mortar and that can be replaced."

As a show of resilience, play will resume on the golf course this weekend.

Orleski says, "Just to show our members that we're still here, we're strong, and we're gonna come back better than ever."

They say they will bring in trailers and keep the golf course running.

Meantime, investigators are conducting interviews and working to determine the cause of this devastating blaze.
