FAIRMOUNT PARK (WPVI) -- The first day of May was welcomed on Friday with a traditional celebration in Fairmount Park.
The Kingsessing Morris Men group did an English Folk Dance as well as other performances on the Belmont Plateau as the sun came up.
Events like this have been happening for hundreds of years across the world to celebrate the end of the cold winter months and the beginning of planting season.
Some of these dances date back to before Shakespeare's time.
The goal of the Kingsessing Morris Men is to keep this exciting tradition of dancing going by performing and introducing it to the future generations.
The Kingsessing Morris team performs at festivals, schools, private events, on street corners, and at museums throughout the year.
They are regulars in the Mummers Day Parade as well.
