Mother, daughter injured in West Pikeland hit-and-run; driver sought

WEST PIKELAND TWP, Pa. (WPVI) -- A mother and her 16-year-old daughter were out for a walk last Friday evening along a scenic road in West Pikeland Township, Chester County when things took a near-fatal turn.

Police say both were struck by a hit-and-run driver that afternoon along the1900 block of Art School Road.

West Pikeland Township Police Chief Shane Clark said people frequently walk along the scenic roads in the township, and he has a clear message for the driver who hit this family.

"If the individual who struck these two women are listening or watching, I beg you to turn yourself in," said Clark. "Make it easier for yourself, make it easier for the victims; we're going to get you."

According to Clark, both victims suffered broken bones. They were found lying on the road near the scene.

Clark said the 16-year-old took the brunt of the impact. She was air-lifted for emergency surgery at CHOP.

"The juvenile sustained severe injuries," said Clark. "The driver of that pickup truck knew he hit somebody."

The family dog was scared and ran away, but has since been found and returned.

According to police, the driver was an older white man. He was said to be driving a late model 1990s or early 2000s Chevy or GMC pickup truck with a ladder rack on it, with possible extension ladders on the rack.

There might also be some black writing on the driver's door.

According to police, the damage on the truck will be on the right front corner.

Police said the two victims are expected to make a full recovery.
