MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. (WPVI) -- A murder suspect made his first appearance in a south Jersey courtroom on Tuesday, charged in connection with a deadly shooting over the weekend.
The Burlington County prosecutor's office told the judge they have witnesses who saw the 26-year-old Jones shooting and killing a supposed friend.
The victim, 22-year-old Byron Turner, was shot on Saturday night in Burlington City.
"He is observed actually firing shots at the victim. Three of the bullets hit the residence," said assistant prosecutor Robert Van Gilst. "The fourth shot hits the victim in the head, killing him."
In a phone call, James told Action News that Turner was caught in a crossfire between him and another man, but the prosecution is not buying that story.
James, who was arrested Monday in Camden County, has a rap sheet of 18 arrests.
Many of those arrests involve violence, and some were in states outside New Jersey, including Iowa.
The judge ordered that James remain in prison on $1 million bond.
