It was a terrifying experience for a family at an apartment complex in Pine Hill, New Jersey on Sunday morning.

PINE HILL, N.J. (WPVI) -- Police have identified the man who allegedly broke into a number of apartments at a complex in Pine Hill, New Jersey on Sunday morning, including at least one with children inside.

The mother of those children, Emerald Black, says it was around 9:30 a.m. when a man she didn't know broke in and ran past her bedroom in the Mansions Apartments.

He then went right into the room where two of her three children were sleeping.

"He closed the door and locked my kids in the room with him. I started pushing at the door and called the police, and he jumped out the window, back first," Black said.

While he didn't hurt anyone or take anything, Black said she was terrified for her children.

"I didn't know what was happening. I didn't know if he was trying to do something to my kids. I didn't know," she said.

An upstairs neighbor, Jasmine Clark, said when she heard the commotion, she ran down to help.

"I looked out the window and another one of our neighbors said that he broke through their back window. So my initial response was to run down there and get their kids, because I know they have kids in the apartment," said Clark.

Eventually the suspect, 32-year-old Keshif Bailey of Pine Hill, was taken into custody without incident after officers found him on a balcony.

In all, police say Bailey broke into four occupied apartments in the 2000 building and the 1400 building, screaming that someone was trying to kill him.

He had to be treated for injuries he suffered when he jumped through a window.

Bailey faces a number of charges including endangering the welfare of a child, unlawful entry and criminal mischief.

He was also wanted an outstanding warrant, police say.

Bailey is being held on $21,500 bail.
