ROBBINSVILLE, N.J. (WPVI) -- President Donald Trump's adviser and New Jersey native Kellyanne Conway came to the state on Tuesday to promote the GOP's proposed tax overhaul.

Her visit to Papa's Tomato Pie's in Robbinsville was her third and final stop of the day.

The session was tightly orchestrated.

"The president is also trying to simplify the system, trying to do away with many of the credits and exemptions that, in large part, favor the wealthy and the well-connected," she said.

Critics of the Republican tax plan, including powerful Democrats, say this plan is a Christmas gift to big corporations and the wealthy.

They say it will raise taxes on the middle class, especially in Democratic-leaning states and many suburbs with high real estate values.

"The evidence so far indicates that potentially millions of middle-class taxpayers will not only get a tax cut, but will get a tax increase. And that's unacceptable," said Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.)

During her tax roundtable, Conway answered questions from a select group of local business people, all saying how lower taxes would benefit them.

During the event, she took a call from Vice President Mike Pence. After a delay of several minutes, Conway returned and put the V.P. on speaker.

"The president's plan is focused on lowering taxes for working families to make sure Americans have more dollars in their pockets," Pence said.

With that reporters were ushered out and told Conway, because of her travel schedule, would not have time to take questions about issues like the scandal surrounding Alabama candidate for senate, Roy Moore, or about the ever-expanding Russia investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller.
