New Jersey State Police are investigating a deadly early morning crash on I-95 in Mercer County.

One person is dead after a car slammed into the back of a tractor trailer in Hopewell Township, New Jersey early Thursday morning.

The accident occurred around 2:50 a.m. on the northbound lanes of Interstate-95.

State police say that a woman driving a KIA Forte slammed into a tractor trailer parked on the side of the highway.

The driver of the tractor trailer was sleeping and immediately woke up after impact.

The KIA erupted into flames upon impact. The driver of the truck pulled the woman out of the burning car.

Police and paramedics arrived at the scene but were unable to save the woman. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her identity is not being released at this point.

The accident is under investigation.
