911 dispatcher tells teenage girl to "stop whining"

ANNE ARUNDEL CO., Md. (WPVI) -- A 911 dispatcher in Maryland has been reassigned after telling a teenage girl to "stop whining" as she reported a hit-and-run accident in which her father was fatally injured.

A recording of the 911 call was released by police in Anne Arundel County:

Dispatcher: "So two people were struck?"

Caller: "Yah, they both laying, they just laying."

Dispatcher: "Ok. Let's stop whining. Ok? Let's stop whining. It's hard to understand you.

The girl had called 911 for help after watching her father and his fiancee being struck by a driver who did not stop.

Rick Warrick later died of his injuries.

The girl and her younger brother witnessed the accident, but were not hurt.

The daughter dialed 911 and spoke quickly, making it difficult to understand.

First responders did reach the scene.

Officials say the dispatcher handled the call improperly, but his performance did not delay the rescuers from getting to the victim.

He has been reassigned to duties that do not involve direct contact with the public.
