NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police have released surveillance video of a violent assault in North Philadelphia in hopes someone recognizes the baseball bat wielding attacker.

It happened just before midnight on Tuesday when a 26-year-old woman was driving north on Broad Street at Lehigh Avenue and the driver of an SUV began beeping their horn at her.

The SUV followed her to 16th and Clearfield streets where a man got out of the vehicle with a baseball bat and began striking the woman's car, smashing out her windows.

When the woman got out of her vehicle the suspect began striking her with the bat several times.

The suspect then entered the passenger side of the SUV, which was being operated by an unknown woman, and a third unknown person in the passenger side rear seat. The SUV then fled.

The victim was transported to Temple University Hospital where she was treated for a laceration to her hand and contusions.

She told police she did not know the attacker.

He is described as a black male, 40 years of age, bald, wearing an orange shirt and blue jeans.
