Man dies after West Philadelphia shooting

WEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A 23-year-old man has died after being shot and critically wounded in West Philadelphia.

The shooting happened at 8:40 p.m. Monday at 57th Street and Hazel Avenue.

Police arrived to find the victim shot once in the chest.

He was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in critical condition.

Surgeons worked to save his life, but he died some time after midnight.

The man had no identification on him.

Police are working to determine who he was, who shot him and why.
