Water main breaks on Temple University campus

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A water main break on the Temple University campus is affecting hundreds of students in at least two dormitories.

The call came in around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday after a 12-inch main ruptured in the area of Norris Street between 13th and Broad.

One of the affected dorms is the Peabody Building, which is primarily a residence hall for freshman.

The first-year students who live in Peabody say, to put it mildly, it's a real inconvenience.

"They gave us the first-floor bathroom of 1940, and they gave us the IBC for showers," said Spencer Lambert. "It's a nuisance to walk all that way."

Austin Drill says he knew he should've cleaned his dirty clothes last night.

"I was going to do laundry today, and I'm out of socks," he said.

The force of the water buckled the road in the area. There was no word on how long it would be closed to traffic.

At last check, work on the main is ongoing.
