NJ Transit rail service delayed after pedestrian struck and killed

TRENTON, N.J. (WPVI) -- NJ Transit rail service was delayed between Trenton and Metropark Friday morning after a deadly accident involving a pedestrian.

The incident, which the NJ Transit website called a "trespasser fatality," happened after 5 a.m. Friday.

The death occurred just west of the Metropark Station when a train from Trenton headed for New York hit a 58-year-old man.

The victim's name was not immediately released.

NJ Transit announced up to 90-minute delays between Trenton and Metropark stations.

WABC-TV reported the 5:12 a.m. train from Newark Liberty International Airport was also cancelled.

Buses were accepting rail passes between Trenton and Metropark.

And PATH cross-honored tickets at Penn Station in Newark and 33rd Street stations in New York until 9 a.m. Friday.

The delays had begun to ease by 9:00 a.m.
