Police say one man is dead and another is in critical condition after an attempted murder-suicide in the Paoli section of Tredyffrin Township, Chester County.
Offices were called to the unit block of Summit Avenue at 11:47 p.m. Saturday for a report of a shooting.
There they found the victim, John R. Williams, who allegedly told them he was shot by a family member.
Investigators say that family member, 70-year-old John Richard Berry, shot himself in the head with a revolver after he was found by police.
Both men were taken to the hospital. Berry was pronounced dead and Williams is listed in critical condition.
Police believe the murder-suicide attempt stemmed from an argument over "financial matters."
One neighbor was stunned by the news.
'They're very nice people. We all grew up together, our kids play with each other, we go in and out of each other's house. This is a close-knit neighborhood, everyone has been here for a very, very long time," Penny Jackson said.
As the investigation continues, police ask anyone with information to contact investigators at 610-644-3221.
