ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- Three Atlantic City police detectives won't face charges in the fatal shooting of an armed man last year.
The decision was made by an Atlantic County grand jury which reviewed the death of 20-year-old city resident Shawn Brown. It was made public late Tuesday afternoon by county Prosecutor James McClain.
The Sept. 9 shooting occurred shortly after plainclothes detectives responded to reports of multiple shots fired in the area of Route 30 and Pennsylvania Avenue. They soon encountered Brown, who prosecutors say was armed with a handgun.
Authorities have said Brown pointed the gun at the detectives. He was shot a short time later and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The names of the detectives have not been released.
