Woman killed in North Philadelphia shooting

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A woman is dead after a shooting in North Philadelphia late Thursday night.

Police said it's hard to tell right now if the woman was the intended target or a bystander.

The shooting happened at around 11 p.m. at the corner of N. 25th and Master streets, police said.

Investigators said it appears the shots were fired in the same direction and that bullets struck the victim, a car and the side of a house.

Police said 911 calls came in just after the city's gunshot detection system picked up gunshots in the area, where at least 20 shots were fired.

Officers found the victim unresponsive on the sidewalk next to a car that was struck by bullets, police said.

Action News has been told the victim was in her mid 30s, and that she was shot in the abdomen and lower back.

Right now, police believe video evidence they're collecting will be crucial.

"Fortunately, there are police real time crime cameras that did record two light colored vehicles, both sedans fleeing from this location," said Chief Inspector Scott Small. "In addition to the real time crime cameras, we have PHA housing police cameras and we found some private business cameras."

Police tell Action News the vehicles might be white or silver, and that they'll go through the rest of the footage in hopes of getting a better description.
