Driver dead, troopers injured following police pursuit in Allentown

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) -- A pickup driver has died following a police pursuit in Allentown, Lehigh County.

It happened around 12:13 a.m. Sunday as Pennsylvania State Police troopers attempted to make a traffic stop, that is when a 1999 Ford F-150 failed to stop.

As police were in pursuit of the vehicle, it stopped in the area of Lehigh and 29th streets.

As the troopers exited their vehicles in an attempt to take the driver into custody, he then struck the troopers with his vehicle and fled the scene.

Troopers were able to get back into their vehicles and pursue the truck again.

The Ford F-150 then lost control in the area of 12th and Vultee streets, where it struck a fire hydrant, utility pole and the Lehigh Valley Logistics building.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle.

Upon arriving at the scene of the crash, police immediately rendered aid to the driver.

Both the driver of the pickup truck, and the troopers injured in the incident were transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest for their injuries.

The 27-year-old driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Both troopers injured were treated at the hospital and released.
