Father and son caught in crossfire in Holmesburg shooting

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A father and his teenage son were injured Sunday when they were caught in the crossfire of a shooting in Holmesburg Philadelphia.

Police say the gunfire erupted around 6:30 p.m. on the 4700 block of Vista Street.

Officers found a 40-year-old man and his 14-year-old son suffering from gunshot wounds.

The father was shot in the abdomen and arm and taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital in stable condition. His son was hit in the abdomen and taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in stable condition.

Investigators say they were outside talking with friends when two groups began arguing in an alley between Vista and Shelmire streets. Both groups exchanged gunfire. The father and son were struck as innocent bystanders.

Police recovered multiple shell casings at the scene.
