PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A man was critically injured after being stabbed aboard a SEPTA Route 54 bus Friday afternoon in North Philadelphia.

SEPTA Transit Police said the incident began as a fight on the bus before escalating into a stabbing around 3:30 p.m. on the 2700 block of Germantown Avenue.

The victim was taken to a hospital and is in critical but stable condition.

"We were taking an order, and next thing we know we saw a guy running down a street, all this blood all over him on his neck, his face," one witness said.

Another witness described hearing the victim after the stabbing.

"It was just like, 'Oh my God, she stabbed me in my neck,'" the witness said.

Police said the victim suffered wounds to the neck, arm and face. Witnesses said they were shaken by the violence.

"That's scary, and we don't know if he was going to survive that," one person said.

Police are still searching for the suspect, but a description has not yet been provided.

SEPTA buses are equipped with surveillance cameras. A SEPTA spokesperson said the agency is reviewing the video and plans to release it.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
