PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- New evidence has linked a Philadelphia man to a 2018 deadly road rage shooting in Montgomery County.

Jihad Henderson, 38, has been charged with the murder of 29-year-old Rithina Torn, police announced on Wednesday.

Police say a lead in the case came from a match of ballistics evidence, showing the same gun that was used in Torn's murder was also allegedly used in a 2024 non-fatal shooting in Delaware County.

Torn was fatally shot on October 15, 2018, during a road rage incident at the intersection of Dewey Road and Front Street in the Melrose Park section of Cheltenham Township.

When police arrived at the scene, Torn was lying in the street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

At the time, investigators said a dark-colored sedan had been driving the wrong way down Dewey Street when it nearly struck the Honda Civic in which Torn was a passenger.

When the sedan stopped at a red light, Torn exited the passenger side of the Honda and walked to the driver's side window of the sedan. Police say that's when he was shot multiple times by the sedan's driver. The driver in the suspect vehicle then fled.

Despite video of the vehicle being released, as well as a $10,000 reward for information, the case remained unsolved until now.

The Montgomery County Detective Bureau was notified in November 2024, that a shell casing recovered from a shooting in the parking lot of a Target on October 12, 2024, in Springfield Township in Delaware County, was a potential match for the 2018 murder.

That bullet was later determined to have been fired from the same Glock .40 caliber handgun, according to police.

Officials say that the gun was legally owned by Henderson.

By the time ballistics were confirmed, police say Henderson had already been arrested and charged in the 2024 Target shooting.

Henderson was convicted in the Target shooting on April 24, 2026. He is scheduled to be sentenced in that case in June.

Henderson is currently confined in Delaware County Prison awaiting sentencing on their case, and arrangements are being made to have him video arraigned on the First-Degree Murder charges.
