PennDOT Construction to close Vine Street for months

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Drivers can expect more gridlock and backups in parts of Center City Philadelphia.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that the intersection of 9th Street and Vine Street will be closed for an extended period due to a major infrastructure and safety improvement project.

Starting Monday, October 20, 2025, the intersection will be closed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is expected to remain shut through Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

The closure is part of an $8.5 million project aimed at improving road safety and upgrading utility systems along a key stretch of Vine Street.

During the construction period, motorists traveling westbound on Vine Street will be detoured to Callowhill Street or Ridge Avenue, then to 10th Street, before reconnecting with Vine Street.

Eastbound motorists will be directed to Arch Street, then 11th Street, and return to Vine Street from there.

PennDOT advises all drivers to plan for increased travel times and potential congestion, especially during peak hours.
