Pa. Gov. discusses bird flu outbreak

LANCASTER, Pa. (WPVI) -- Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Pennsylvania's Secretary of Agriculture visited Lancaster County on Tuesday, amid a highly contagious nationwide bird flu outbreak.

"Pennsylvania is really sadly at the epicenter of this," Governor Shapiro said.

So far, 7.6 million birds have died this year in Pennsylvania.

Shapiro says the state has mobilized additional personnel and expanded testing capacity to help contain the outbreak.

"We are obviously in crisis mode when it comes to high path avian influenza," he said.

The federal government is also stepping in and deploying a team from the USDA.
