Police fatally shoot armed suspect after double homicide in Chester

CHESTER, Pa. (WPVI) -- Chester police shot and killed an armed man early Wednesday after officers entered a home where two people had already been attacked and killed, according to authorities.

The incident unfolded just after midnight on the 900 block of Barclay Street.

Police had been called minutes earlier for a disturbance captured on neighborhood surveillance video showing a man jumping on cars.

"He was just trampolining the carS, and I had the 911 on the line and he was approaching," a neighbor, Terrell Jones-Dowling, said.

Sources said that when officers first arrived, people involved in the disturbance told police they had the situation under control. But within minutes, violence erupted inside a nearby home.

"So when they came, when I looked out the window like, five minutes later, they were like out here in swarms, and I was like, 'Ohhh they not for me,'" Terrell said.

According to sources, the suspect - the same man seen jumping on cars - fatally shot a man in the basement of the home.

When officers entered, they found the suspect stabbing a woman to death. The district attorney's office said the man ignored police commands, and an officer shot and killed him.

Three children were inside the home at the time, sources said. A 12yearold child was injured, and another adult woman was stabbed and taken to Christiana Hospital.

A dog named Diamond was also shot in the face. Brandywine Valley SPCA says it rescued the dog and took the dog to an emergency veterinarian.

"I'm sad for the family. The kids were out here," Terrell said. "When they took the mom in the ambulance, she was first out and she was just worried about her kids. Cause initially we did not know what had happened."

As the neighborhood grapples with the violence, city officials responded publicly. In a statement, the mayor said, in part, "I am incredibly sad about this tragic night that has destroyed a family, traumatized a neighborhood, and shaken our entire community."

Chester police are handling the doublehomicide investigation, while the district attorney's office is investigating the officerinvolved shooting.
