PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police are investigating a deadly shooting involving a pizza delivery driver in North Philadelphia.
It happened at the Raymond Rosen Homes on the 2300 block of Edgley Street around 12:30 a.m. on Friday.
Authorities say the 28-year-old man was found shot in the head after just completing a delivery to a vacant unit.
"He was lying on the ground unresponsive, bleeding heavily with a gunshot wound to his head," said Chief Inspector Scott Small with the Philadelphia Police Department.
He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
"From looking at the pizza boxes, we were able to identify the pizza shop," Small said.
Action News has confirmed the victim worked for Pete's Pizza.
At the scene, police recovered three spent shell casings, just inches away from where the victim was found.
"Which is an indication that the shooter or shooters were standing very, very close to the victim," Small said.
The victim's vehicle was also discovered near the scene, with a pizza warmer still inside.
Inside the vacant apartment, officers found three pizza boxes and a bag, which appeared to be untouched, leading investigators to believe that the victim successfully delivered the items before being shot outside.
Police said surveillance cameras operated by the Philadelphia Housing Authority captured portions of the incident.
While officials say the shooting wasn't caught on camera, they say you can see the delivery driver walking with the boxes while being followed by two people wearing dark clothing. One of the people following the victim appeared to be carrying a dark backpack.
No one is in custody, but police said they do have a lead.
"We do have the phone number that made that pizza delivery," Small said.
This is the second Pete's Pizza delivery driver to be killed in recent years. In 2024, a 29-year-old man was gunned down in front of the store.
A 26-year-old man was also shot and killed while inside the store later that same year in what police said was possibly a road rage incident that escalated into a deadly shooting.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact police.
