Philadelphia activist faces aggravated assault charge after SEPTA stabbing incident

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Rosalind "Roz" Pichardo, a Philadelphia activist known for her anti-violence work and outreach efforts, was arrested Wednesday and is facing aggravated assault and related charges stemming from an incident on July 17.

According to authorities, transit police responded just after 9 p.m. to a report of a stabbing on SEPTA's Market-Frankford Line heading eastbound under Market Street at 8th Street.

Police later found two women involved in a physical confrontation, with both suffering injuries.

Pichardo was taken to a hospital for treatment. The other woman, who sustained lacerations to her face, was transported to Jefferson Hospital. It is unclear whether she faces any charges.

Pichardo posted $2,500 bail.

Pichardo is the founder of Operation Save Our City, an organization whose mission is to provide life-saving skills, education and necessities to people who have experienced trauma and been exposed to violence.

She is also the woman behind Sunshine House, a Kensington center that provides resources to people battling addiction.

Video of the fight was captured and is now part of the investigation. The case is being handled by the mass transit prosecutor through the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office.

Pichardo declined to comment and referred questions to her attorney, who said, "no comment" at this time.
