PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police are looking for a man they say stabbed two day care workers on Wednesday morning in Germantown.
It happened around 10:30 a.m. on the 5700 block of Germantown Avenue. Police say it started as an argument between the suspect and two female workers of Ya-Ya's Place.
The argument escalated and moved inside the daycare. That's when, police say, the man stabbed the two women with a knife.
One family carried their toddler daughter barefoot and wrapped in a jacket away from the day care. Her mom says blood got on her clothes.
"They said it was on her shoes and her coat, that's all I know. On my daughter. Her shoes and coat," said Larita Hill.
"It appears the individual chased the victims inside and stabbed them inside," said Captain John Craig from Northwest Detectives.
One woman was stabbed in the stomach, the other in the hand.
"It boggles the mind how a day care center, where young juveniles are present, that an individual, for any reason whatsoever, would do such a heinous act," said Craig.
Police say none of the children were present for the crime, but parents are still reeling that this happened at the day care.
"They told me to come get my kids and that's what I did. I came straight up here to come get them and that was it."
Investigators say the women were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and the suspect got away.
"I'm just glad they had them safe in there, that's all I'm going to say," said Ronald English, a grandparent.
As police look at surveillance and search for the suspect, parents say they're disturbed that this happened at a day care.
"Upset. I'm upset," said Hill.
"It happens. It happens in the world today, it happens," said English.
