Police investigation underway at Norristown State Hospital in Montgomery County

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) -- There is a police presence at Norristown State Hospital in Montgomery County on Friday morning.

Police responded to the hospital in the 1000 block of Sterigere Street around 7:30 a.m.

Chopper 6 was over the facility, where you could see yellow crime tape and police surrounding a red car in the parking lot.

There has been no word on any injuries.

Pennsylvania State Police is investigating.

Norristown State Hospital is a long-term psychiatric facility, according to the State of Pennsylvania.

The hospital provides treatment for patients with severe and persistent mental illness.
