GLASSBORO, N.J. (WPVI) -- Rowan University held its 21st annual Rosa Parks luncheon Tuesday.
New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Dr. Dale Caldwell gave the keynote address.
The event was part of Rowan's month-long theme of a "Century of Black History Commemorations" celebrating the contributions from Black Americans.
Proceeds from the luncheon benefit Rowan University's Gary J. Hunter Scholarship, which assists deserving undergraduate students.
This year marks 71 years since Rosa Parks was arrested after she refused to give up her bus seat to a white man in Alabama on Dec. 1, 1955.
The incident led to the 381-day Montgomery Bus Boycott, which eventually brought international attention to Civil Rights issues.
