ARDMORE, Pa. (WPVI) -- Construction at the Ardmore Regional Rail station that services SEPTA and Amtrak is now completed after years of significant delays.
The station serves SEPTA's Paoli/Thorndale line and Amtrak at Lancaster and Anderson Avenues, not far from Suburban Square.
The fencing has been removed, so passengers no longer have to walk all the way around the station.
There are also new sidewalks, wheelchair ramps, and platforms, along with a newly renovated building.
There's a history of at least 150 years of railroad activity at this location.
SEPTA's multi-million dollar renovation is part of an initiative to make these old transit centers more accessible for all riders.
The station now includes more ramps and an elevator.
Renovations began in 2019 and were originally supposed to take two and a half years to complete, but that time frame ballooned into nearly seven years.
The pandemic brought construction to a halt, and then when workers were finally able to continue, global supply chain issues caused further construction delays.
There were also reportedly unexpected structural issues within the old building.
The parking lot behind Ardmore Music Hall has also been reopened for commuter parking.
