Man arrested after dousing woman in gasoline, threatening fire: Police

NEWFIELD, N.J. (WPVI) -- A standoff in Gloucester County, New Jersey, ended peacefully Friday afternoon after a man allegedly poured gasoline on a woman and threatened to set her and a home on fire, according to the Franklin Township Police Department.

Officers responded around 5:28 a.m. to a residence in the 200 block of Northwest Boulevard in Newfield Borough.

When officers arrived, they saw the suspect retreat into the home. The victim told police the man had doused her with gasoline and threatened to ignite it using a lighter.

Authorities quickly surrounded the residence and attempted to communicate with the suspect, but were unsuccessful, police said.

The Gloucester County SWAT Team was called in around 7 a.m. The suspect, identified as 54-year-old Dominic Polidori, was taken into custody without incident at approximately 12:15 p.m.

Polidori was charged with attempted homicide and terroristic threats. He is being held at the Salem County Correctional Facility.

Due to the potential presence of hazardous materials, power was shut off to roughly 300 homes and gas service was disabled for about 25 residences in the area. Both services have since been restored.
