US Mint releases new commemorative coins to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The U.S. Mint is producing commemorative coins to help celebrate the nation's 250th birthday.

The new designs include coinage from the nickel to the half dollar.

Some are already in circulation and have been produced at the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia.

They include the Enduring Liberty 2026 Semi-quincentennial half dollar, the 1916 Mercury Dime gold coin, and a special series of quarters with five designs, such as the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and the Mayflower.

Paul Hollis, director of the U.S. Mint, says he expects a lot of interest and demand in these new commemorative coins.

"It is a tangible link to America's history," he said. "It's a way to celebrate America and our story and it's something that you can hold in your hand."

However, people have been divided over the design on the back of the new commemorative dime.

It does not feature an olive branch, a symbol of the balance of peace and war, and a fixture on the dime since 1946.

President Trump signed an act during his first term calling for the minting of these coins.

They were designed during the Biden administration, with the second Trump administration giving them ultimate approval.

You can order them right now on the U.S. Mint's website.
