Woman killed after tree falls on moving car in Philadelphia's East Falls section

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A woman is dead after a tree fell on her moving car late Thursday morning in the East Falls section of Philadelphia.

The crash happened around 11:53 a.m. in the 3700 block of West School House Lane.

According to police, the 44-year-old woman was in a silver 2016 Ford Mustang traveling westbound when the tree fell on the vehicle.

The woman was pronounced dead at 12:23 p.m.

"The car was completely smashed. Obviously, a tree hit it," recalled Allory Anderson, Roxborough. "That image is ingrained in my mind. Definitely praying for that family."

It's now yet known why the tree fell, though heavy rain was falling in the city at the time.

The woman's name has not been released.
