PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Authorities in Pittsburgh say an elderly driver struck and killed pregnant woman, whose baby was later delivered by cesarean section.
The nearly full-term child remained in critical condition Wednesday night.
Police say 30-year-old Jodie Guthrie was sitting outside a North Side drugstore on Wednesday afternoon when a man tried to pull into a parking space.
Witnesses said the vehicle jumped the curb and pinned Guthrie against a wall. Police Commander RaShall Brackney says the 88-year-old motorist might have hit the gas instead of the brake.
Detectives questioned the driver and his wife, who was a passenger. The man's identity was not released. It's not clear if charges will be filed.
Police say Guthrie, who lived in the neighborhood, was nearly nine months pregnant.
