ABC's Rising Star: Your turn to be judge
Download the app and get ready to judge the contestants on TV's first truly live music competition!

They sing, you vote in real time, and they find out - on the spot, on the stage - whether they live to sing again.

It's all part of "Rising Star," a new show on ABC in search of a new singing sensation.

It premieres Sunday, June 22nd at 9:00 p.m.

"When you are in that live moment and watching America in real time, you are deciding the fate of the person in front of you. Emotions are going to run high!" said singer and songwriting Josh Groban, one of the show's hosts.

Groban calls 'Rising Star' a television game changer: a first-of-its-kind live, interactive singing competition where YOU - the viewers - are real time judges

"They are able to see the votes go up in real time and see the picks of the people voting in real time and, as a singer myself, that sounds 100% terrifying to me!" Groban said.

Here's how it works: Just download the FREE 'Rising Star' app and use it to decide, as the performer is singing, whether they stay or go.

"They will swipe one way for 'Yes' and one way for 'No,'" Groban said.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • To vote for your favorite contestants, home judges (viewers) can download the Rising Star ABC app through the Apple App Store, Windows Market Place, or the Google Play Store.
  • The App is essential to participate in the voting process, but it's totally FREE and easy to use.

  • Just register with your Facebook or Twitter account, and you're ready to go.

  • Before each performance, you'll be asked to check-in, and then when it's time to vote, swipe BLUE (to the right) to vote YES or RED (to the left) to vote NO.

  • You'll see the results of the vote in REAL TIME on television - even if you are on the West Coast.

  • In just seconds, your votes determine whether the wall rises, whether a contestant moves on or goes home, or if you're on the West Coast, whether a lucky contestant gets a second chance.

  • And IF you give us permission through the app, you might also see your Facebook or Twitter profile picture on the Rising Star wall.

Recording artists Kesha, Ludacris and Brad Paisley are also on the panel of celebrity judges.

"It's a revolution, not only in technology but how people view TV, how they react to TV," said Ludacris.

"In the show it's immediate, instantly gratifying," Kesha said.

"It's going to be so much fun to see these things happen and see their life change right away," said Brad Paisley.

Groban said the four judges are an eclectic bunch musically but, on set, they gel.

"The four of us are the most schizophrenic foursome of people., and put us in a room and we have the greatest time, we just laugh," he said.

Each artist serves as a mentor, coaching the singers and helping them earn your real-time vote.

"On other shows they are fighting and on different teams and on this one we are all on the same team," said Kesha.

Kesha also joked about her... let's call it "loose" tongue.

She says producers sent her for a little coaching but she adds that 'Hey, they hired me and they know I don't have a filter. Should make for good TV!"
