Police in Mayfair are trying to track down the person who shot a woman in the face during a robbery.

TACONY (WPVI) -- A 75-year-old woman was shot in the face during the course of a robbery that happened in broad daylight in Philadelphia's Tacony section.

The victim had been walking home from a supermarket on Frankford Avenue. With two bags of groceries she was navigating a driveway behind 7100 Erdrick Street when she was jumped by an armed robber.

Philadelphia Police Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum says, "She described the male as a Hispanic male in his late 20s/early 30s. Asked for her money, grabbed at her, kind of pulled her towards the car. There was a struggle and a shot was fired. She was hit in the face."

Neighbors hearing the gunshot called 911.

Despite a wound, the 75-year-old continued to her home.

Rosenbaum says, "It's a good 2 1/2 blocks from here to home and lets husband know... puts the groceries away and waits for police to come and take her to the hospital."

Those who know the victim not surprised.

Samantha Bebb is a friend of the victim. She tells us, "No, not with Ms. Judy. No, she is stubborn. She walked all the way home. She fought him, that's why he shot her, apparently."

On hearing of Thursday's shooting, many in the neighborhood said they feel crime is on the rise.

Alanna Sharrat says, "It's really getting bad. I can't even take my grandson to the playground over here."

Mike McCollum tells us, "I grew up at basically Frankford and Cottman when I was a little boy and you could walk around at all different hours. But now after dark, I wouldn't recommend it."

The victim in this case is recovering and was able to talk to detectives. Action News is told she could possibly be released from the hospital on Friday.
