CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- On Friday the Rothman Institute Ice Rink opened, right in the heart of Center City Philadelphia.
Our very own Karen Rogers was there for the official ribbon cutting just after noon today, opening the ice up for the very first skaters.
The cold air that moved in on Thursday definitely helped put people in the ice skating mood.
From noon until 3:00 p.m. the rink was free for people to try out.
For the kids who had been waiting outside the rink, the opening couldn't come soon enough.
Noe Bunster of University City says, "It's cool that it's here, right in the middle of Philly and everyone can kinda share it like that."
Samir Butch of Glenside tells us, "I love to skate. So every part of it is just really fun."
And Tina Krasting of West Deptford says, "Even though it's an ice skating rink it just adds warmth to the city."
Okay, so if ice skating isn't enough to keep you warm, there is a cafe on location where you can go to get a cup of something warm.
Just remember there is a fee for skate rentals if you don't bring your own.
Check out the full hours for the season.
