The award for best shelter in a full service roll goes to the Humane Society of Ocean City.

Jenna Callender the Development Manager, Humane Society of Ocean City said, "We have animal control, we have a full time veterinary center, we have a shelter so we are one of a kind. We're not just an adoption shelter."

The award presented by Trupanion at the 2014 Pro Plans 60th Annual Show Dogs of the year awards, is an award usually reserved for breed specific rescues.

"I'm very happy that they chose shelter because most animals in shelters are mixed breed. They're the best dogs out there if you ask any of us," said Callender.

And while their work has been recognized, nationally the objective has not changed.

"Our mission is to provide companionship and get all of our animals adopted to wonderful families," said Callender.

If you're interested in any of the animals from the video, you can go the Humane Society of Ocean City website.

You can also vote for your favorite shelter-or add a rescue group to our list by going to the Shelter Me section of the Action News' Facebook page.
