Shelter Me: J and Company Rescue
We visit a local rescue dedicated to helping dogs that have had difficult past lives.
J and Company Rescue got its start 4 years ago.
It's a small rescue making a big difference in the lives of the dogs they save.
"Medically urgent dogs with extensive medical needs," said owner Lorie Sickel.
The rescue rehabilitates dogs from cruelty and neglect cases with the hope of eventually placing them in their forever home.
"When dogs have suffered a lifetime of neglect, there are a lot of medical issues that go with it," said Sickel.
The rescue is foster based.
First of all decompressing from the shelter, second getting a diagnosis for the dog and then finding out what kind of treatment is going to be needed and follow up care," added Sickel.
Most of the time the dogs make a full recovery, other times there are lasting effects.
Sickel said, "Cane is about 8-years-old. He's one of our dogs in hospice care."
Cane came to the rescue with heartworm. But treatment uncovered diabetes.
Sickel says, "He's very playful and he's super handsome."
Macy is a 3-year-old Pit mix, who lived her entire life outside.
"She's getting used to being an inside dog, a family dog and learning the boundaries," said Sickel.
Jersey would love a home with a family.
"Her favorite things to do are cuddle up in the chair with you. She's pretty low energy although she still does enjoy playing," said Sickel.
Benny Two was pulled from a shelter suffering from a chronic ear infection.
Sickel adds, "He's had that ear infection for 4 years so he was in agony."
His ear is damaged, but healed.
"He seems very friendly eager and ready to play. He's one of our miracles," said Sickel.
Meet Reese, a 3-year-old Australian Shepherd mix. She is blind and has recently underwent heart surgery. She'd be the perfect fit for a low energy house hold and she loves to cuddle.
