Cleveland Guardians pitcher Luis Ortiz was arrested in Boston in connection to an alleged sports gambling investigation.
The assistant U.S. attorney said a superseding indictment is possible and it is likely additional defendants will be charged.
The mayor's lawyers accused prosecutors of leaking grand jury material and other sensitive information in "brazen violations" of the rules.
"Congressmen get upgrades, they get corner suites, they get better tables at restaurants, they get free appetizers, they have their iced tea filled up," his attorney, Alex Spiro, said at a subsequent news conference. "Courtesies to politicians are not federal crimes."
