Extravagant engagement leaves many wondering if it was an elaborate ad
Extravagant engagement leaves many wondering if it was an elaborate ad. Alicia Vitarelli reports during Action News at 4 p.m. on June 24, 2019.

In the age of social media, when an "influencer" gets engaged you can't fault anyone for wondering -- was this the ultimate fairytale proposal or was this designed for "the gram" and the brand?

The sobbing, the bended knee, the stunning chateau in France.

This was the culmination of a three-day scavenger hunt that ended with Instagram influencer Marissa Fuchs and Gabriel Grossman, a VP at Morgan Stanley, getting engaged.

From New York City to the Hamptons, Miami and Paris.

Turns out this scavenger hunt was available for sponsorship opportunities after someone leaked pitches on imgur.

The bride maintains she was genuinely in shock, while the groom says he paid for most of this out of pocket, with a few small discounts and handouts in exchange for exposure.
