Texas boy hears for the first time
Eleven-year-old Jeffrey Mota heard sound for the first time last week.

Eleven-year-old Jeffrey Mota heard sound for the first time last week.

He became overwhelmed and scared.

Jeffrey's father, Joel Mota, says there will be challenges getting his son used to hearing, but already knows his son is grateful.

Mota said, "He's thanked me a couple of times for his cochlear implants which is very surprising that he's using a lot of gratitude compared to some kids who have none."

Jeffrey's new cochlear implants are the fulfillment of his late mother, Rosie Mota's final wish.

The Motas adopted Jeffrey in 2014.

The couple saved money and planned for Jeffrey's surgery, but unexpectedly, Rosie Mota lost her battle with breast cancer.

Before she passed, she started a GoFundMe account to raise money for Jeffrey's implants.
