Thief caught on camera stealing tools from work van in NE Philadelphia

Police are looking for a thief who stole tools from a work van in Northeast Philadelphia.

HOLMESBURG (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police are looking for a thief who stole several tools from inside a locked work van in the city's Holmesburg section.

The theft happened on October 23 around 2:40 a m.

Surveillance video caught the suspect driving east on the 4200 block of Lansing Street.

As his vehicle passes a large white work van, he stops and backs up.

The suspect then gets out of his vehicle and approaches the van.

He breaks into the van through the passenger side door and steals various tools from inside.

After placing the tools into his own car, he drives away and was last seen heading east on Lansing Street.

Police describe the suspect as a white male with a bushy goatee. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

The getaway vehicle is described as a Mitsubishi with a dent in the right rear fender and missing hub caps.
