1 killed, 5 injured in Tacony-Palmyra Bridge crash
One person was killed in a crash that shut down the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge for more than 7 hours.

PALMYRA, New Jersey (WPVI) -- One person was killed and five others were injured in a multi-vehicle crash that shut down the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge for more than seven hours.

It happened around 6:50 p.m. Monday.

According to authorities, the crash occurred when two cars heading westbound towards Philadelphia appeared to be speeding. One car clipped the other sending it into the eastbound lane, where it struck a Honda Civic head-on.

Two other vehicles were also hit.

The driver of the Civic, Gerardo Francisco Perez Martinez, 35, of Camden, New Jersey, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Five others were taken to the hospital with various injuries, none of which appear to be life-threatening.

The bridge reopened to traffic around 2:40 a.m. Tuesday.

No arrest or charges have been announced

The bridge, operated by the Burlington County Bridge Commission, connects the Tacony section of Philadelphia to Palmyra, Burlington County.
