12-year-old cancer survivor dreams of becoming Flyers goaltender
WEST CHESTER, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- 12-year-old Brayden Baldwin from Wallingford, Pennsylvania, dreams of becoming an NHL goaltender.
Of course, he wants to play for his favorite team: the Philadelphia Flyers.
But his greatest challenges yet have occurred in a hospital room, facing off against childhood cancer twice.
Baldwin was first diagnosed around the age of 3, and once again around the age of 6.
He and his family never stopped fighting. And as of January 2026, he calls himself a survivor.
Baldwin attends an in-person academy, Total Package Hockey Academy Philadelphia. There, he spends a chunk of his day doing activities such as working out, yoga, and of course, practicing ice hockey at the next-door Iceline Quad Rinks.
The rest of his day is spent taking classes through the online school, Agora Cyber Charter School.
The unique balance has given Baldwin the flexibility to chase his dreams without falling behind on school work. He can even attend school online during medical appointments.
