New 'Welcome to Philly' mural debuts during America 250 celebration

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- He's painted in 18 countries and 22 states. But for Alloyius McIlwaine, there's no place like home.

McIlwaine, who was raised in North Philadelphia and now lives in West Philadelphia, has created hundreds of murals in the city.

He was recently tapped to be the head artist in a project to celebrate a summer of celebrations.

The mural, titled, 'Welcome to Philly,' is located at 10th Street and Market Street.

The city is expecting a historic year for tourism with the FIFA World Cup, the United States Semiquincentennial, and the MLB All-Star Game. McIlwaine's design gives visitors a crash course in Philadelphia culture.

The project is a collaboration between the Mural Arts Program, Center City District, HBSE, and Comcast.

Watch the video above to see more about the mural and how it was made.
