Pa. dad cooks up the 'Kenney Burger' for a good cause

COLLEGEVILLE, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- A little burger has made a big difference in Collegeville.

Daniel Kenney invented the 'Kenney Burger' in 2018. The smashing technique has made his recipe a fan favorite among those on his son's sports teams.

When Kenney's son, Sean, joined the varsity soccer team at Spring Ford High School, the dish reached a whole new audience.

Daniel Kenney decided to volunteer at the school's concession stand, which struggled to raise funds selling soft pretzels and chicken sandwiches.

When he brought his portable grill and put Kenney Burgers on the menu, they flew off the shelves.

With his help, Kenney says the concession stand made over $3,000 this season to support the school's athletic programs.

This led to the school's soccer program being chosen as the winner of the 2025 Beef's Best Concession Stand Contest. The contest is put on in partnership with The Pennsylvania Beef Council (PBC), Northeast Beef Promotion Initiative (NEBPI) and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA).

Kenney parlayed the burger's success into a holiday donation drive to support the Daily Bread Community Food Pantry in Collegeville.

And recently, he held the First Annual Kenney Burger Holiday Party, during which he served Kenney Burgers for free to thank the community for their support.
