'Killers of the Flower Moon' star discusses historic Oscars nomination
Alicia Vitarelli spoke with Lily Gladstone, star of 'Killers of the Flower Moon,' about her historic nomination.

LOS ANGELES (WPVI) -- The Oscars are just four days away, and the excitement is building.

Action News' Alicia Vitarelli went to Hollywood, meeting and chatting with some of this year's biggest stars.

She spoke with Lily Gladstone, star of 'Killers of the Flower Moon,' about her historic nomination.

Pride is high on her Blackfeet Reservation in Montana, as Gladstone becomes the first Native American to be nominated for an Oscar for best actress for her role in Martin Scorsese's 'Killers of the Flower Moon.'

"My parents really made a point of making sure that I grew up on my reservation, so I could have that connection to my people" Gladstone noted.

"It's such an incredible honor," she said. "It's already historic."

The film tells the true story of the Osage people, who were exploited and even killed for their oil.

Gladstone's character, Mollie Burkhart, is a real-life member of the Osage nation.

When the Oscar nominations were announced, Gladstone wanted Mollie's memory with her.

"I chose to be in Osage County for when the news came in either way," Gladstone said. "I wanted to be as close to Mollie as I could get that day."

Gladstone is in a tight race with Emma Stone on Hollywood's biggest night, but if her high school yearbook superlative holds up, looks like Lily is "Most Likely to Win an Oscar."

"Maybe the Mountlake Terrace High School class of 2004 was ahead of the curve on something," she laughs.

Next stop: the Oscars!

"My mom will definitely be with me," Gladstone says. "We're trying to talk my dad into it."

Gladstone also says this is a very "shared moment" with the Blackfeet community that always supported her passion for the arts.
