N.J. police officers won't be charged in death of suspect

VINELAND, N.J. (WPVI) -- Two Vineland, New Jersey, police officers will not be charged in the death of a suspect while in custody.

The investigation into the controversial case, that sparked community outrage, has taken more than a year.

Officers tried taking 32-year-old Phillip White into custody on March 31, 2015.

A witness recorded the officers sic a K-9 on White, after he allegedly reached for an officer's gun during the struggle.

The state medical examiner says the police dog inflicted only superficial wounds, and ruled that White actually died from a PCP overdose.

A Cumberland County grand jury heard the evidence and has declined to indict the officers, finding their use of force justified.
