INDEPENDENCE, MO -- A 22-year-old woman who was shot and killed in front of her two young sons Sunday night in Independence, Missouri, is believed to be a victim of road rage.
Whitney Gray was shot and killed in front of her two two children, ages 3-years and 6-months. According to investigators, Gray was driving a minivan when she encountered a road rage incident.
Police said a man in a white SUV fired a gun. Gray was shot once.
Gray's niece, a 16-year-old, was also in the vehicle at the time of the shooting.
Gray's vehicle came to a stop about two blocks away. Authorities pronounced Gray dead at the scene. The children were not injured.
WDAF reports that there were several bullet holes in her windshield.
Independence police confirmed Tuesday morning that they have made an arrest in connection Gray's death.
Christopher Taylor, 39, was arrested in South Dakota by U.S. Marshals hundreds of miles away from the scene on a second-degree murder charge in the slaying of Whitney Gray.
Family and friends set up a GoFundMe for Gray and her young sons.
